WHAT TO EXPECT

Day 1 – IDIAZABAL – DESIGNATION OF ORIGIN

Arrival and transfer to hotel in Beasain for subsequent transfer to Idiazabal, welcome to the Territory Idiazabal, guided tour of the town that gives its name to the famous and award-winning cheese with a visit to the cheese museum, the monument to the shepherd, sheep miniatures under the sapling of the Gernika tree, etc. Visit a cheese factory, where we will know first-hand how cheese is produced.

Lunch and transfer to Segura, a medieval village. We will play a game.

Transfer to the hotel and accommodation.

 

Day 2 – PAIRING GETARIA TXAKOLI WITH IDIAZABAL CHEESE

Breakfast in the hotel.

A wonderful journey in search of an exclusive Euskadi wine: Txakoli. We’ll tour the cellars where this characteristic wine is produced, hidden in the depths of hidden labyrinths of vines, in inland settings or on the edge of cliffs.

Though Getaria Txakoli may be associated with the town that shares its name, this wine is currently produced with Designation of Origin throughout Gipuzkoa.

We will have a Txakoli and Idiazabal cheese pairing master class at the hands of a renowned chef, a member of Euro-Toques and Nariz de Oro (‘Golden Nose’) winner.

Lunch in the hotel and visit to Igartza palace.

Day 3 – ORDIZIA – A GIFT FOR THE SENSES

Breakfast in the hotel.

We will go to Ordizia and receive a “gift for the senses” since XIth –XIIth centuries began to celebrate the first commercial meetings around the hermitage of San Bartolomé. Ordizia market has witnessed the town’s development and numerous anecdotes and happenings around it. Thus, based on its history and tradition, the Ordizia market has become a benchmark for the country’s agricultural products: fruits, vegetables and autochthonous vegetables, Idiazabal cheese and lamb among others.

Choose your favourite ingredients with a local chef and then he will teach you how to prepare them sharing with you different nutritional advice while savouring them. Lunch included.

In the afternoon, we will visit the D’elikatuz centre. You will have the chance to learn about Ordizia’s Market history, and the products offered each season, such as the most important in the valley, the Idiazabal Cheese. This centre is aimed at both children and adults and introduces in a highly graphical and interactive way various aspects of Basque cuisine.

Transfer to the hotel and accommodation.

 

Day 4 – SHEPHERD FOR A DAY

Breakfast in the hotel.

In the morning we will go to Urkiola to be shepherds for a day. You will learn about the tasks of agricultural and cattle exploitation shepherds. Through cheese production and Latsa sheep’s care workshops, we will learn about the cycle production focused on sheep. Shepherd for a day! Lunch included.

In the afternoon walk along the massif of Amboto (home of Mari goddess) gives away beautiful landscapes with huge and beautiful farmhouses, cows, horses, chickens, sheep… on the merits of its green meadows and forests. Time here seems to stop.

Transfer to the hotel.

 

Day 5 – DONOSTIA - SAN SEBASTIÁN

Breakfast in the hotel.

During the morning take a sightseeing tour of the romantic city that runs along Cortázar’s Eixample, designed in the second half of the nineteenth century after the demolition of the walls protecting the town.

Lunch: Pintxo tour, feel like a real “Donostiarra” and enjoy the true miniature cuisine.

Free time.

With a private tour guide, the schedule, duration and activities can be adjusted to meet your needs. Please, provide any special requests you have.

Please note that this tour is a culture and food tour. But, you will get a pair of local snacks as well as a walk through the old quarter of San Sebastian in order to learn about the Basque culture and gastronomy. Please note that you will not receive a full meal.
