WHAT YOU´LL DO

During “Euskal Jaiak” different typical sports competitions and demonstrations are held in the city and surroundings. Activities directly related to Basque culture, such as the races, having their origins in the fishing that is so representative of the Cantabrian coast. Naturally, “Euskal Jaiak” of Zarautz, held on 9th September, are a splendid example of local folklore that brings much more than a simple holiday in Euskadi-Basque Country. During these days the streets are full of groups of dancers accompanied by txistus and other instruments.

  • Day 1: Guided visit to the Old Town of San Sebastian and pintxo based dinner
  • Day 2: Visit San Sebastian and the San Telmo museum
  • Day 3: Sunday of “Regata Races” enjoy the Michelin restaurant Arzak
  • Day 4: "Cider Day" and "Gaztelu Eguna"
  • Day 5: Buy some products in the Bretxa market, then cook and taste it
  • Day 6: Enjoy the "Euskal Jaia" in Zarautz and watch a "pelota" match
  • Day 7: A morning in Talasoterapia La Perla
 

WHAT TO EXPECT

Day 1

Arrive to Donostia – San Sebastián. Guided tour through the Old Town and pintxos based dinner, done in a modern way that will still make you feel like a local. Design your own route, ask for our suggested pintxos and use PintxoBox tokens to pay for the pintxos and drinks, and feel safer. Easy and simple.

Day 2

Breakfast in the hotel.

During the morning, a sightseeing tour of the romantic city will show you the whole city, a relaxing walk will show you the Cortázar’s enlargement, designed in the second half of the nineteenth century, after the demolition of the fort that was protecting the town. The perpendicular street - where the sandstone and French-style buildings are integrated into the environment - gives the feeling of a peaceful and organized city.

Then, we will have the chance to visit the San Telmo Museum, located in the old part of the city. Represents our cultural and historical, past and present, features with a multidisciplinary and open vision.

Free time to discover the city on your own and have a walk through the seafront.

Day 3

Breakfast in the hotel.

Sunday of “Regata Races”, go on your own to this party that can be observed from every point of the city.

Free time for lunch and a free afternoon to enjoy this special day like all the donostiarras.

Transfer by an old but luxurious car to the restaurant with 3 Michelin stars that we will visit in the city, Arzak ***. The house was built in order to be a wine cellar and bar in the village of Alza. It continued being a bar until Juan Mari Arzak’s parents (Juan Ramón Arzak and Francisca Arratibel) started to manage it, who made the bar become a restaurant. The restaurant started gaining notoriety, specializing in family celebrations and marriages, up to the edge of the kitchen, devoting the three Michelin stars.

Transfer to the hotel and accommodation.

 

Day 4

Breakfast in the hotel.

During the morning, Cider Day is celebrated at Constitution Square, in the old part of the city. Opportunity to taste local products as well as to drink cider.

Then, we will go into a typical Gastronomic Society. Where we will meet the familiar tradition and taste the typical dishes of the city.

In the afternoon, there is a spectacle called “Gaztelu Eguna”, the show commemorates the rebuilding of the city after it was almost completely burned by Napoleon’s troops in 1813.

Dinner in one of the typical restaurants of the Old Town and transfer to the hotel.

Day 5

Breakfast in the hotel.

In the morning, we will go to La Bretxa Market, where we could find the best raw materials that will be needed for the next experience as we are going to attend a cooking session. Once we have bought the needed products with the chef, you will have the chance to cook and taste them carefully.

Free afternoon and transfer to the hotel. Accommodation.

 

Day 6

Breakfast in the hotel.

Today is Euskal Jaia, the tradition says we need to dress up with the typical Basque dresses, we will drive to Zarautz, in order to live a once-in-a-lifetime experience, a folkloric celebration that moves a big amount of people. After lunch, we will go to see a “pelota” match, a traditional Basque sport.

Free time and transfer to the hotel.

With a private tour guide, the schedule, duration and activities can be adjusted to meet your needs. Please, provide any special requests you have.

Please note that this tour is a culture and food tour. But, you will get a pair of local snacks as well as a walk through the old quarter of San Sebastian in order to learn about the Basque culture and gastronomy. Please note that you will not receive a full meal.
