  • Day 1: Welcome recption in Zumaia, guided tour to the city and a visit to the Geopark
  • Day 2: Visit Getaria and a local farm, visit Zarautz
  • Day 3: Sightseeing tour of San Sebastian and a pintxo-based lunch
  • Day 4: Visit Azpeitia and the three temples

 

WHAT TO EXPECT

Day 1 -ONGI ETORRI! WELCOME TO ZUMAIA 

Transfer to Zumaia, hotel accommodation and free time to relax. The coastal village of Zumaia has a “special colour”, full of magic and history from which we will begin to discover the unique settings where the movie was filmed.
Guided tour of the seaside town of Zumaia. Starting with San Pedro Church, we wander through the winding streets discovering the buildings that reflect the historical past of the village.

After this, a visit to the Geopark of this astonishing coastal area. The great geological heritage which unfolds before your eyes gives a visually stunning understanding of the evolution of our planet over the last 110 million years.
Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

 

Day 2 - GETARIA - ZARAUTZ

We’re off  to Getaria, a beatifully atmospheric fishing village and birthplace of Juan Sebastian Elcano, the first person to succesfully circumnavigate the globe.

It is a popular tourist destination in the Basque Country, famous for its restaurants serving grilled fish and white wine with Designation of Origin from locally cultivated grapes: the “Txakoli”, “Antxoas” and “Tuna” manufacturers are also great places to visit as they still prepare things in the traditional way.
Tours of Getaria and transfer to “txakolindegi” to enjoy one of our greatest treasures,  “Txakoli”. To continue with the tour, something unimaginable awaits us. We will visit a special place where nature merges with gastronomy, “Ezkurtxerri” experience.

The Subijana family opens up its farm to experience a day with a typical Basque pig! In addition to a guided tour of the farm, we will have lunch with the family and get to know artisanally produced Subijana products. Different and amazing experience combining  family atmosphere and nature…

Transfer to Zarautz, a beautiful coastal town with great artistic and architectural attractions as well as an exceptional natural environment. The beach and its spectacular waves are enjoyed to the full by thousands of surfers. Then it’s time for a coffee at the restaurant/hotel of Spain’s most famous TV chef Carlos Arguiñano.

Free time to explore the myriad delights of the town.

Dinner at a local restaurant and transfer to Zumaia for accommodation.

 

Day 3 - DONOSTIA - SAN SEBASTIÁN

Breakfast at the hotel.
At the appointed time, pick-up at the hotel and transfer to Donostia-San Sebastián, even if the film is not recorded in the city is “definitely more than a film scene”.
Arrival in Donostia – San Sebastian, also known as the Pearl of the Cantabrian Sea, it is one of the cities that best combines food, culture and beauty, joining them all with unique natural surroundings plus making the traveller feel as part of the city.

During the morning experience sightseeing tour of the romantic city that runs along Cortázar’s Eixample, designed in the second half of the nineteenth century after the demolition of the walls protecting the town. Its perpendicularly drawn street, show us and ordered and
serene city where the sandstone buildings are integrated into the environment, and is easy to guess the French influence in their designs.

Walk to the well-known “old part” to enjoy its streets and local environment. We will have a pintxo-based lunch, where we will taste our culture and feel as a donostiarra, together with local people. Design your own route, ask our suggestions pintxos is an easy and simple option.
Enjoy one of the jewels of Donostia, gastronomy.
Free afternoon.
Transfer to Zumaia at the scheduled time.

 

Day 4 - DISCOVER THE IGNATIAN LAND: “THE ROUTE OF THE THREE TEMPLES”

Breakfast at the hotel.
Today we will have the opportunity to discover the Ignatian lands of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, and a lot of “artzaiak” (shepherds) immigrated to American lands.

At the appointed time, we will meet in Azpeitia and moveto Loyola Sanctuary. We will have the chance to discover the Basilica, the Holly House and the Chapel of the Conversion. This place has great historical value as here, also happened the revolutionary change in the life of the founder of the Jesuist religious order.

Guided tour in Azpeitia, a we will stop at the most relevant buildings as thetown hall (ancient Dominican convent), the mudejar style Antxieta Palace, Emparan or Basazabal Palace, and last but not least, the medieval parish church of San Sebastián de Soreasu where we can find the baptismal font where Saint Ignatius of Loiola was christened and la Magdalena Hospital. Then you will visit the Basque Railway Museum where you can find the best railway collections in Europe.

Lunch included in Azpeitia.

Few kilometres from this place, in a natural landscape of Zumarraga, we find the Romanesque shrines of La Antigua, offering us views over the industrial landscape of Urretxu and Zumarraga. It is believed that the church was built on an ancient strong defense of the 12th century, first signs date back to 1366.

Last stop on the Route of the Three Temples is Arantzazu Sanctuary, located in Oñati. Considered as greatest natural, historical and artistic value of the province.

Transfer to the hotel and accommodation.

With a private tour guide, the schedule, duration and activities can be adjusted to meet your needs. Please, provide any special requests you have.

Please note that this tour is a culture and food tour. But, you will get a pair of local snacks as well as a walk through the old quarter of San Sebastian in order to learn about the Basque culture and gastronomy. Please note that you will not receive a full meal.
